Nelson Velásquez
Vallenato singer-songwriter, voice of Los Inquietos del Vallenato.
Nelson Aníbal Velásquez Díaz
Nelson Velásquez was born in San Juan del Cesar, in Colombia's Guajira, on 15 March 1973, the son of the celebrated singer and accordionist Aníbal Velásquez. He began on the accordion as a child, playing first with a local group, Los Sensacionales, alongside the accordionist who would later accompany him, Emerson Plata.
His solo opportunity came in 1995 with a compilation of new vallenato artists for the Orquídea label, on which "Ayúdame Dios mío" and "Volver" became hits in Colombia. From 1996 he fronted Los Inquietos del Vallenato, whose albums — Volver a triunfar, Inquietos por el mundo, Presente y futuro, Eternamente, Sueños de Colombia — produced a run of songs of the year in Colombia, gold records and tours of Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru and the United States; "Nunca niegues que te amo" (1999) and "Perdóname la vida" (2000) are among the best known.
