Certified translations for USCIS — by country.

What each country calls its civil documents, who issues them, whether an apostille exists, and what 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3) requires of the English translation — for the fifteen countries whose records most often reach a U.S. immigration file in Spanish or Italian.

The one rule that applies everywhere

Every foreign-language document filed with USCIS must carry a full English translation and the translator's signed certification of completeness, accuracy and competence (8 CFR 103.2(b)(3)). The pages below add what differs from country to country: the name of the document to request, the issuing authority, the apostille position, and the quirks that trip up filings.

Any document containing foreign language submitted to USCIS shall be accompanied by a full English language translation which the translator has certified as complete and accurate, and by the translator's certification that he or she is competent to translate from the foreign language into English.
